1) Starting from YHA Cairns Central

2) Rusty's Market | Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

During the weekends, make sure to check the Rusty's Market only one block from the hostel. There you can find local fruit and veggies as long with local food, coffee and artisanal crafts.

3) Cairns Museum | From $15

A few blocks away you will find The Cairns Museum. It tells the Cairns story with passion and playfulness – fitting for this frontier town located in Australia’s tropical Far North. Recapping the region’s stories in a contemporary manner, the museum makes history fun.
The Museum has five galleries with accounts of the Bama Traditional Owners, the sugar cane industry, tourism development, the good, the bad and the ugly of living in the tropics, the reef and rainforest and of course weather – specifically cyclones. Its remarkable permanent collection is matched by temporary exhibitions and collaborations to extend the museum’s coverage of the city’s past and present.

4) Samurai Gallery of Australia | From $10

Next stop is the Samurai Gallery of Australia, the only gallery in Australia dedicated to the Arts, Armor and Arms / Weaponry of the Japanese Samurai Warrior.

5) City Library | Free Entry

The City Library has a rich history. The building, which is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register, was constructed in 1929 and served as Cairns City Council's Chambers until Council moved to new premises in 1998. A special feature at the City Library is the Literary Trail, a display of public artworks completed in 1999 by local artists. Follow the Literary trail as you walk around the gardens of the library.
The City Library is also home to the Cairns' Sister Cities display which includes an interactive touchscreen.

7) Court house Gallery | Free entry

The Court House Gallery is an art gallery and performance space in the heart of the city. The gallery presents a vibrant and dynamic program of shared arts experiences, including visual and performing arts in a variety of innovative spaces in the refurbished, historic Court House building.

8) The esplanade | Free

Whether it's a swim in the Lagoon, a workout at one of our green gyms, or a casual game of beach volleyball, there's plenty of facilities along the Esplanade to enjoy. All of the recreational facilities are free for public use

9) Esplanade Lagoon | Free

The Lagoon is a 4800sqm saltwater swimming facility that offers an all-year round, safe swimming location, monitored by lifeguards. There's is free bathroom, showers and public BBQs available.

10) Esplanade scenic walkway | Free

The Esplanade also includes 2.5km of pedestrian and shared paths, with markers each 500m, for a picturesque stroll, jog or run.

You can choose to do a little walk or just sit to enjoy it. Make sure to look for the little crabs at the shore and the pelicans that usually spend the day in this spot.

11) Esplanade Eastern high-water pier | Free

Enjoy the views over the eastern point at the pier. Make your way to next stop at the Fogarty Park while enjoying the marina views and shops.

12) Tip of cairns | Free

Perfect spot to take pictures specially during the morning and seeing the occasional helicopter flying in and out.

13) Fogarty Park | Free

This park is a wonderful spot nestled by the lagoon, offering a serene environment surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant plant life.
The Cairns Council also has free classes you can join like Zumba every Tuesday 5.30 Pm or a Pilates every Thursday 6.30 Am.

13) Harbor scenic walkway | Free

This boardwalk goes along the sea edge, from the Marina to the cruise ship terminal. Go for a little walk around the vessels and restaurants and enjoying of the beautiful view.

14) Fig Tree

The Fig Tree is a Giant Banyan tree with a playground and a tree house located on the ocean front. It has a playground with wooden platforms, walkways, slides and all kinds of climbing apparatus to wear out the kids and adult. You can play or sit and enjoy an awesome view of the sea and mountains in the distance.
